Traditionally used in Latin American cuisine, black beans have an earthy flavour and soft, creamy texture. They're delicious in tacos and enchiladas and they make a versatile addition to soups and salads.
These beans are more than just a colourful addition to your plate. They are high in protein so make a good addition to plant based diets. Just 70g serving of black beans is high in Protein, Fibre, Thiamin (B1), Folic Acid, Magnesium, Potassium, Manganese, Phosphorus, Copper and a source of Pyridoxine (B6), Iron and Zinc.
Their black colour signifies a unique anthocyanin profile and they are rich in a range of nutrients including folate which helps reduce tiredness and fatigue.

- Do not add salt until the beans have become tender, at least an hour into cooking. Salt will slow the softening process.
- If you are substituting canned beans for dried, 1 cup of dried beans produces about 3 cups of cooked beans. One can contains about 1 1/2 cups of drained beans.
- We think these beans make great burritos as they have a dense texture and stay intact when cooked.
